Eric considers himself a “recovering banker” of 15 years, who for the past eleven years has focused his efforts as a digital strategist, helping his clients (mostly community banks) better understand and leverage the power of the Internet as a strategic business tool. An award-winning web designer with WSI, the world’s largest digital agency network, Eric is a two-time contributing author to the best-selling book Digital Minds – 12 Things Every Business Needs to Know About Digital Marketing. Consistently rated in the top five digital marketing books on Amazon, the book is in its second edition and available in three languages.

A sought-after, nationally-recognized speaker in the financial services industry, Eric is a member of the National Speakers Association and loves sharing his knowledge to help educate and inspire others. He is the co-creator of a weekly webinar show called Free Webinar Wednesdays, founder of the Banker Education Series webinar series, and serves as a faculty member at several banking schools around the country where he teaches bankers about digital strategy, online marketing and social media. He is a WSI Certified LinkedIn Professional and holds undergraduate degrees in business administration and psychology. While working full-time as a community banker, Eric earned his MBA and completed the three-year Graduate School of Banking program in Madison, WI in 2003.

Professionally, Eric helps his clients in all areas of digital marketing, which includes mobile-responsive web development, search engine marketing and optimization, social media strategies, e-mail communication, and “big-picture” digital strategic planning. He’s the co-founder of DigitalRCP.com, a service created to help businesses understand their risk when it comes to operating in today’s digital world. When he’s not helping his clients succeed online, he can typically be found on one of his many bicycles training for his next mountain bike/triathlon race or spending time with his wife and two (very spoiled) golden retrievers.

Summary:

The following webinar was originally posted on April 8th, 2020 as part of a series of shows focused on WSI’s 3rd edition of the best-selling book, Digital Minds. For each of these webinars, I spent time with fellow authors and discussed their chapter - and the strategies it contains to help get the most out of your digital marketing strategy. Enjoy! ~Eric :-)

To reach your desired audience online, you need to have a digital strategy in place.

Calling it a “Digital Strategy” and not a “Digital Marketing Strategy” is correct because you should approach the process at the highest level. The digital world should be part of the business strategy, not a subset of the marketing strategy.

It should be an essential component of the mental framework of business owners, as well as C-Level strategists and marketing officers, CMOs. In today’s webinar, we review the Digital Strategy planning framework and convert it into an easy to follow checklist that becomes a very useful tool.

As a marketer, consultant, and head of a digital agency, it is very important for me to understand the business strategy of my customer. When working with large companies, we usually find that they have a strategy already outlined which, in some cases, includes the digital component; therefore, we can intervene and define implementation. With medium size and small companies, however, things are a little more challenging, because oftentimes the strategy is not outlined in a document, it resides merely in the owner’s or CEO´s mind, and it doesn’t always include the digital component.

Based on our experience, having a checklist that helps you build a digital strategy is highly valuable.

That being said, we’ll help you start to prepare a checklist in a way that will compliment an existing digital strategy. You’ll be able to validate everything has been considered. On the other hand, if you do not have such a strategy, you can think of a set of questions that will help you draft the initial version.Reviewing business strategy concepts can be helpful to prepare or validate your digital strategy.

We’ll talk about some concepts from several published authors and experts in strategy that should be part of your checklist during the webinar.
