We believe in a team approach to digital marketing and Internet strategy. By combining business and marketing executives, website design and development professionals, and search engine and analytics experts, we can develop an integrated strategy that makes the most effective use of your marketing dollars. Because we all have different skill sets, our round table of professionals can work on their individual area of expertise and in harmony with each other to develop a solution that is professional and optimal from every standpoint.
We know that great design, search engine position or even the newest technology alone, will not be enough to effectively maximize the power of the internet. It is the combination of creative, analytical, technical and business minds that can best ensure success.
Meet Your Consultant - Eric Cook, MBA
Eric Cook has been involved with the Internet since 1995 when he taught himself "HTML" and created the first website for a community bank where he was working as a management trainee, making his employer one of the first community banks in the nation with a presence on the web. Over his 15-year banking career, he took that website through several different incarnations and was responsible for numerous leading-edge technology innovations including real-time debit/ATM processing, online banking and bill payment and prior to his departure the implementation of an online mortgage lending service. He served his industry on several committees at the local and state level, serving as Chairman for the Michigan Bankers Association’s Operations and Technology Committee for the three years prior to joining WSI.
Recognizing the potential of the Internet and his unique ability to help businesses better understand what’s possible, Eric made the decision to pursue his passion for technology full-time. In an industry where providers typically adopt a narrow “technology-focused” approach, Eric is able to use his business experience to better help customers develop a comprehensive strategy that is based on sound business principles. With his love for technology and passion for digital marketing, he is able to help customers make better decisions and consider the “big picture” and help ensure long-term success for their digital solution. Now in partnership with WSI as an owner of a national franchise license, Eric is backed by the strength, experience and resources only a company like WSI can provide.
Education and Community Involvement
Cook holds a double-major BA in Business Administration and Psychology from Alma College as well as an MBA from Western Michigan University, where he was inducted as a member of the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society for being in the top 10% of his graduating class. He is also a graduate of the prestigious Graduate School of Banking at the University of Wisconsin in Madison, where he currently serves as a faculty member and teaches on Social Networking and Digital Marketing. As a community banker he served his community in various roles and is past board member and Chairman of the Marshall Area Chamber of Commerce, is a member of Rotary International, serves on the Marshall Community Foundation as a member of the grant review committee and is a past member of Marshall's DDA and Recreation advisory boards.
Focus On Community Banking and the Financial Industry
With 15 years of hand's-on experience as a community banker, Eric and his WSI office has special expertise on helping community-focused institutions engage online. In the banking world you have to take into consideration regulation, compliance and other industry-specific nuances to ensure that you're using digital effectively - but appropriately. We've worked with numerous banks and state banking associations to help them connect and engage online. He remains connected with the industry through an active speaking schedule, appearing at association and fintech events across the country. He also extends his educational efforts through syndicated webinars as well as holding faculty positions at the Graduate School of Banking (mentioned above) as well as the Barret Graduate School of Banking, Pennsylvania Bankers Association's Advanced School of Banking and the Pacific Coast Banking School.
Eric and his wife Alicia (who's also Business Manager for the company) reside in south-central Michigan with their two Golden Retrievers. In addition to enjoying his “family time,” Cook is an avid cyclist and triathlete who also founded Pedaling with a Purpose, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping fellow cyclists raise money for worthy causes through the sport of bicycling. The office is also the title sponsor of the local cycling team, WSI Cycling since 2012, which has members locally, as well as internationally through the WSI network of consultants.
Helping to Make a Difference - Fighting Childhood Cancer
In 2002 Eric had the life-changing opportunity to meet Christi Thomas, the brave daughter of a fellow GSB classmate, who was diagnosed with a rare form of childhood cancer called Neuroblastoma. Over her four-year long battle against the disease, Eric became known around the world as “Christi’s Webmaster” as the website he created for the family surpassed one million visits and attracted attention from supporters around the globe. While Christi unfortunately passed away in the fall of 2006, this experience had a profound impact on his outlook on life and the true “power” of the Internet. This experience was one of the main reasons he left banking in 2007 to pursue his passion and due to the impact she had on his life, Cook continues to donate a portion of profits to childhood cancer research efforts in Christi’s memory. Each year he picks a race (typically a triathlon or endurance-distance mountain bike event) as his personal fundraiser to continue the fight against Neuroblastoma.
